Dan Cadigan, The State Journal-Register’s 2014 First Citizen, dies


Dan Cadigan was named the State Journal-Register First Citizen in 2014.

Dan Cadigan, a consummate volunteer in the Springfield community and The State Journal-Register’s First Citizen in 2014, died Friday at his home.

He was 81.

Cadigan was a certified public accountant and retired managing partner of the Kerber, Eck & Braeckel accounting firm.

Cadigan left his imprint as a volunteer on youth, education, business and governmental organizations over five-plus decades at Sacred-Heart Griffin High School and Blessed Sacrament Grade School and The Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce and United Way of Central Illinois, among others.

John Eck Sr. practiced with Cadigan at KEB from 1964 to 1995.

“I talked to an individual last night and I think his quote was probably as appropriate as anything. He said, ‘Dan raised the level of accounting in this town and he’s raising the level in heaven,'” said Eck, reached Saturday.
