Thomas E. Leighton, 85, of Lewes, formerly of Newark, passed away in his sleep Thursday, June 10, 2021, at Seasons Hospice at Christiana Care. He was born May 13, 1936, in Pawtucket, R.I., son of the late Robert Leighton and Beatrice Kwick.
Mr. Leighton attended Goldey Beacom College. He was a proud veteran, having honorably served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Leighton married the love of his life, Carol Leighton, in Baltimore, Md. He worked for many years as a production accountant in the manufacturing industry. Mr. Leighton loved golfing and coaching Little League. Above all, Mr. Leighton enjoyed spending time with those he held most dear. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Leighton was predeceased by his beloved wife, Carol Leighton. He is survived by his sons: Richard Leighton (Suzy) of Newark and Joe Leighton (Erika) of Newark; his daughter, Tracie Leighton; his grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Sarah (David), Brian (Lindsay), Ryan, Aaron, Brittany, Kennedy, Campbell, RJ and TJ; his great-grandchildren: Ava, Luke, Hazel, Elliana, Trent, Keegan, Harper, Aiden and Caleb; and his brothers: Chris Leighton and Robert Leighton.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 16, at 11 a.m., at Conley’s United Methodist Church, 33106 Jolyn’s Way, Lewes, where friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Conley’s Chapel Cemetery, 22150 Robinsonville Road, Lewes.
