PICPA

Reading’s Certified Accountant Francis A. Aitken was appointed President of the Pennsylvania Certified Accountants Association from 2021 to 2022. Aitken was elected at PICPA’s 124th Annual Meeting on June 11.

Aitken is the Chief Operating Officer of the Berks County Community Foundation, overseeing the management of the Foundation’s assets and the operation of the Foundation’s buildings. Aitken also works with local real estate and financial planners on complex real estate planning functions to help clients design philanthropic heritage.

Aitken holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Widener University. In 2014, the Greater Reading Chamber of Commerce and Industry named her the ATHENA Award. The award recognizes professional excellence, community service, and active support for women to achieve professional excellence.

Aitken is a former president of PICPA’s Reading Branch and is currently a member of the Pennsylvania CPA Foundation and the CPA-PAC Board of Directors. In addition to volunteer leadership at PICPA, Aitken is also a trustee of the Berks County Legal Foundation.

Carpenter Technology Co., Ltd.

As of July 1, Dr. David Graf has been appointed to lead the company’s specialty alloys business segment as Vice President and Group President — SAO.

Since joining Carpenter Technology as Chief Technology Officer in 2018, Graf has been committed to driving improvements in multiple areas. As CTO, Graf has focused its R & D organization on strategic alignment with commercial goals, resulting in higher value, customer-driven R & D investments and accelerated innovation. He also oversaw the company’s intellectual property portfolio and developed and implemented strategies to increase the quality and quantity of the company’s patent applications. Graf has partnered with a commercial team to set up an electrification center for its expertise in reading facilities, hire talented people and drive capital investment. In addition, in 2020, Graf took over the leadership of the Carpenter Additives business and led activities to restructure, reorganize and rationalize its business activities.

Prior to joining Carpenter Technology, Graf worked for WR Grace for eight years and was Global R & D Director. He is also General Manager of the Americas and Vice President of Marketing for Specialty Catalysts. Prior to that, he held various R & D leadership roles at the Dow Chemical Company for 12 years.

Graf holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Michigan State University. He got a PhD. Originally from the University of Minnesota, he worked as a postdoc at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
