Getting Ready for Top 100 – Certifications Part 3

Insightful Accountant has just launched the nomination process for its 2023 Top 100 ProAdvisor and ProAdvisor of the Year awards. That means it will be two months before we come close to accepting formal applications once nominees are notified they have been qualified to continue in the process.

So, it is never too early to ensure you are up to date on your certifications to attain the highest rankings possible within the categories applicable to your ProAdvisor practice.

I’ve written some articles in this Certification series, which is aimed at “Getting Ready for Top 100 (2023).”  The first story examined the general aspects of certification, while the second one explored the certifications applicable to International ProAdvisor participants.

This article focuses on Certifications for ProAdvisors within the US.

To be considered for the 2023 Top 100 ProAdvisor and ProAdvisor of the Year awards, nominees from the US must hold one or more current Intuit (US) ProAdvisor Certifications for either QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Desktop. Nominees not meeting this minimum requirement will not be permitted to continue to the formal application phase of the awards process.

To meet the minimum ProAdvisor Certification requirement within the US, participants must prove they hold one of the following “current” certifications within their Intuit (US) certification record* illustrated on their Find-a-ProAdvisor listing**:

  • QuickBooks Online Certification
  • QuickBooks Online Advanced Certification
  • QuickBooks Desktop Certification

ProAdvisors within the US can score additional certification points for applicable award categories relative to these QuickBooks (US) certifications for ProAdvisors:

  • QuickBooks Online Payroll
  • QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise
  • QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale 19.0

In addition, US-based ProAdvisors will be eligible to score additional points when they have received***or currently hold a Certificate of Completion in:

  • Payroll Fundamentals
  • Bookkeeping Principles
  • QuickBooks Time Fundamentals
  • Intro to QBO for Accountants
  • Latest Product Updates (QBO)
  • QuickBooks Desktop Migration
  • QuickBooks Online Advanced Specialty
  • Advising Clients: Framing Advisory Work
  • Advising Clients: Core of the Work
  • Advising Clients: Optimize Your Work
  • Advising Clients: App Demos
  • QuickBooks Desktop 2021 Certification
  • QuickBooks Desktop 2020 Certification
  • QuickBooks Desktop 2019 Certification

In addition, ProAdvisors in the United States can score points for historical QuickBooks Product certifications for years other than those listed here. As part of the formal application process, Insightful Accountant ascertains when an applicant first earned QuickBooks Online (Core) Certification and if the applicant has held certification each intervening year since initial certification.

The same inquiries are made of Desktop Certification holders and QuickBooks Advanced Certification holders.

Insightful Accountant’s scoring algorithm assigns a certification point factor to the initial certification year and a recertification point factor for subsequent certification years, excluding the most current certifications, which an applicant reports directly on the application form and which is scored accordingly.

Current certification point factors are driven by a combination of the reported certification and the associated ‘training’ reported by the ProAdvisor within their application form.

A note to all of our participants.

For 2023, everyone who proceeds from the nomination process into the application process will be required to complete a “new 2023 application form;” there will be no short form for returning participants.

In addition, Insightful Accountant has changed both the nomination and application forms this year to a different survey tool that should significantly benefit the administration of the scoring and ranking process.

Remember, nominations for 2023 are now open.

Here is the link to the Nomination related article with access to the nomination form.

Footnotes & Disclosures

*– For purposes of this requirement, ‘current’ certifications mean the most current certification available immediately before the date upon which nominations for the 2023 awards opened (12/14/2022). Should a newer certification become available, that newer certification shall not be considered as the minimum requirement for participation; however, such newer certification shall be considered as part of the scoring and ranking mechanism if such certification is made available in sufficient time to be included within the official ‘Application form’ for purposes of the 2023 Awards. If such newer certification is not made available in sufficient time to be included in the official “Application form,” said certification shall not be considered part of the scoring and ranking mechanism for the 2023 awards.

**– Current certifications will be assessed from the ProAdvisors’ Find-a-ProAdvisor listing. Should a ProAdvisor have their listing set to “private” they will be requested to either make their listing “public” so that verification can take place, or they will be asked to submit a screenshot of their Find-a-ProAdvisor Profile, or submit a copy of their most current certification “certificate,” for verification purposes, Failure to comply with these requirements constitutes grounds for rejection from the awards process on the basis of inability to verify and document minimum qualifications.

***– Some certifications listed may no longer have been available when nominations opened for these awards but had previously been available during the “look back” period Insightful Accountant uses for certification recognition and scoring.
